What characterises a Parakite
It lies above all in the architecture of the control system: the brakes, the risers and the lines work together, and it is that connection which lets the pilot change the wing’s configuration in flight.
That range is what changes the logic of flying: through the brakes, the pilot manages speed, pitch, trajectory and energy. It stops being only about direction - it becomes energy management. What is a Parakite?

Learning parakite
Paragliding first. Then the Parakite
The Parakite Course is for paraglider pilots: it builds on what you already know and trains what is different about the Parakite. The training is given by the Coaches Pilot2Wing; Happy Soaring is not a school - it runs the course and handles choosing the wing, the sale and the after-sales.
A pilot should not have to adapt to the only wing available.

The method uses different wings at different stages: 8, 10 and 12 m² mini-wings in training, and the Mullet 2 on the Parakite Course - a model that comes in six sizes, from 13 to 26. The right size is not the same for everyone.

Rent the day. Not the wing
For parakite pilots who want to fly in Portugal without bringing their wing: you book the day, Happy Soaring checks you, is there and picks the setup for the conditions. €100 per pilot per day.
The Parakites remain under Happy Soaring’s management.
The wind decides where we go
References for where flying happens in the region. Not guaranteed availability - the day decides.
How much wind is needed?
We do not give a minimum or maximum wind figure, because there is no figure that can be safely applied to every pilot and every piece of equipment.
The strength required depends on several factors, including:
- discipline - Parakite or paragliding
- the model and characteristics of the wing
- wing size
- all-up weight
- the pilot’s experience
- wind direction
- gusts and the quality of the flow
- the conditions present on site
Two people at the same site with the same wind speed may need different equipment, or may assess the conditions differently.
The differences between Parakite and paragliding, and between different models, sizes and wing loadings, can significantly change what conditions are appropriate for each pilot.
Wind speed must therefore be considered together with all of these factors, and never used on its own as the criterion for deciding to fly.

Do I need to know how to fly a paraglider first?

Yes - that is what the Demo Sessions are for. They depend on equipment availability, the conditions on the day and suitability for the pilot, so they are arranged case by case.
Where do people fly Parakite in Portugal?
On the Atlantic coast, and the day decides. There is no fixed site: the spot is chosen according to the wind, the tide and who is flying. The references in the region are Fonte da Telha, Lagoa de Albufeira, Meco, Alfarim, Peniche and Praia da Gralha - but none of them is guaranteed availability.
